An Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplement for Dogs
AllerG-3 Fatty Acid Liquid contains
a concentrated source of omega-3 fatty acids supplemented with vitamins A, D
and E. AllerG-3 is a supplementary source of Omega-3 Fatty acids where
dietary intake is inadequate or when the skin and coat condition indicate
that supplementation would be of benefit to the animal.
Your Pet's Skin
Skin is the largest organ of your pet's body; as such it performs several
important functions. Many elements are important to maintaining the health
of your pet's skin including routine cleaning, grooming and a well balanced
nutritionally complete diet. A well balanced diet must contain adequate
quantities of high quality protein, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to
preserve the integrity and function of the skin. Pets that have diseases
affecting the skin may need supplements of one or more dietary components to
help the skin function more normally.
Allergies and Skin
When your pet has allergies, he or she is more likely to itch and scratch
than to develop runny eyes and nose as you do. Substances that cause
allergies (allergens) may be inhaled, eaten or absorbed onto and through the
skin. Many of the same things that you are allergic to can cause problems
for your pet, too. These include grass, trees, mold, dust, dander or certain
foods. Allergens from any source cause immune cells to release inflammatory
substances into the skin. These substances cause your pet to itch and
scratch and may contribute to chronic skin and ear infections making your
pet uncomfortable and unhappy.
Vetoquinol AllerG-3 Fatty
Acids
AllerG-3 Fatty Acid supplements contain omega-3 fatty acids derived from
fish oil. These fatty acids help decrease allergy related itchiness in the
skin by interfering with production of the inflammatory substances that
cause the itching. The omega-3 fatty acids in VET
Solutions AllerG-3 Fatty Acids supplements, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)
and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), are found only in cold water fish and are
not commonly used to make dog food. Other omega fatty acids such as omega-6
and omega-9 fatty acids are plentiful in dog food and do not, therefore,
need to be supplemented. In fact, the presence of too many omega-6 fatty
acids may actually promote inflammation. Vetoquinol [formerly VET Solutions]
AllerG-3 Fatty Acid supplements contain high quality fish oil which meets or
exceeds label claims for purity, strength, quality, and identity. AllerG-3
Fatty Acid supplements also contain vitamins A and E, antioxidants which
help decrease free radical damage caused by inflammation.
