Description:
Lactulose produces a laxative effect in the colon. Lactulose is used for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy because it decreaes blood ammonia concentrations by lowering colon Ph and reducing absorption of ammonia in the colon. Lactulose is also used to treat constipation. Use with caution in diabetic animals because it contains lactose and galactose. Each tablespoon (15 ml) contains 10 g lactulose.
