Ketoconazole Tablets

Antifungal Medication

Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication used for the treatment of fungal, ringworm and yeast infections. Ketoconazole is also given to more serious fungal infections including histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, blastomycosis and cryptococcosis in dogs. It is sometimes given for the treatment of Cushing's Disease (hyperadrenocorticism) in dogs.

Ketoconazole inhibits the growth of fungal organisms by interfering with cell wall formation.

Dosage and Administration:
  • Dogs: 10-20 mg/kg once daily
  • Cats: 10 mg/kg once daily
Side Effects:
Dogs - Lack of appetite, vomiting, itching, alopecia and reversible lightening of the hair coat. Given with food will often reduce the level of anorexia.
Cats - Cats are more sensitive to Ketoconazole. Clinical signs include anorexia, fever, depression, diarrhea, and elevated liver enzymes.
