Description

Ketorolac Tromethamine Ophthalmic Solution 0.5%

Ketorolac Ophthalmic Solution a sterile topical medication used to treat inflammation within the eye. Ketorolac inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which in turn decreases the inflammatory response within the eye.

Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used in the treatment of certain types of anterior uveitis and iritis. It is particularly helpful in the control of chronic uveitis where long-term topical corticosteroids may be detrimental. It is also given as a pre-operative and post-operative anti-inflammatory medication to reduce uveitis associated with eye surgery.

Ketorolac is widely used for treating seasonal allergic conjunctivitis in people and may have similar benefits in dogs and cats.

Administration:

  • Dogs, Cats, Small Mammals: Administer 1 drop per eye every 6 to 24 hours depending on the severity of the inflammation. Administer 2-3 times daily over the two days prior to surgery, or for 2-3 doses just prior to surgery. Continue for several days post-surgery.
  • Birds: 1 drop per eye every 12 hours. The duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, the response to the medication and if there are any adverse effects.

Active Ingredients: Ketorolac Tromethamine

Caution: While generally safe and effective, Ketorolac should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to the medication or to topical or systemic NSAIDs. Ketorolac should not be used in the presence of eye hemorrhage or clotting as there is the potential for increased bleeding due to it's effect on platelet aggregation. It can potentially increase bleeding tendencies during eye surgery when used preoperatively.
The concurrent use of topical NSAIDs with topical corticosteroids has been identified as a risk factor in humans for precipitating corneal problems.

Available Sizes: 5 ml and 10 ml bottle
