Supplement For Urinary Incontinence In Dogs
Proin Chewable Tablets are recommended for the long-term management of
urinary incontinence associated with urethral sphincter incompetence in spayed
dogs. Proin helps control urinary incontinence (inability of the bladder to hold
urine) by tightening the urethral sphincter to prevent leaking. Many times
urine leaking will appear as a wet area on the bedding or as a wet genital area.
By controlling incontinence, Proin also helps relieve
associated odor and the dermatitis from urine scalding in the genital area.
Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) is a sympathomimetic agent and is a
chemical analogue of the endogenous sympathomimetic amines. Proin acts by increasing resting urethral tone in dogs. It acts by
direct stimulation of the smooth muscle of the internal urethral sphincter.
Dosage For Dogs:
1 to 2 mg/kg every 12 hours orally.
If clinical response is poor, the initial diagnosis
should be reconsidered.
For this drug to be effective, it must be administrated
as directed. Missed doses will negate its effect.
Store at Controlled Room Temperature.
Caution: May cause excitability and restlessness.
Do not use in animals with pre-existing medical conditions (e.g. cardiovascular
disease, hypertensive disease, renal insufficiency). Do not use in animals
taking cardiovascular medications or any other sympathomimetic agents.
Store
Proin Chewable Tablets out of reach of dogs and other pets. Instances
of dogs chewing through closed bottles of Proin and eating the bottle
contents have been reported. If accidental exposure occurs, consult your
veterinarian.
Adverse Reactions:
Lethargy and inappetence have been reported in a dog following
an overdose (2.5 mg/kg three times daily).
Side Effects
Sympathomimetics may produce a wide range of effects, most of
which mimic the results of excessive stimulation of the sympathetic nervous
system. Side effects include anorexia, restlessness, irritability, tremors,
tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, hypertension, vomiting, diarrhea, panting and urinary retention..
Do not exceed the recommended dose. Higher dose can
result in anorexia, vomiting, tachycardia, disorientation and mydriasis.
If ongoing side effects or urinary incontinence persists
or increases, consult a veterinarian.
Each Liver Flavored Tablet Contains: Phenylpropanolamine HCl 50
mg.

How Supplied: Proin Chewable Tablets are
