Description

Ursodiol

Ursodiol is used to treat certain liver and gallbladder diseases in dogs and cats. It may also be used for gallstones that contain cholesterol.

  • Removes toxic bile acids
  • Dissolves some types of gall bladder stones
  • Helpful in treating cirrhosis and chronic active hepatitis

Ursodiol improves the flow of bile through the liver into the gall bladder and improves the flow of bile from the gall bladder to the small intestines. It also aids in preventing the build up of potentially toxic bile in the liver.

Ursodiol also reduces the amount of cholesterol the liver produces and thereby reduces levels in the bile. It also reduces cholesterol absorption from the GI tract and increases it's breakdown.
