Tramadol is a pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain in dogs and cats. Tramadol can also be used in combination with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in dogs. This analgesic is used for severe post-surgical pain and for chronic pain like cancer or degenerative osteoarthritis. It can also be used as a cough suppressant.
Tramadol works by decreasing the brain's perception and response to pain by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin. This centrally acting analgesic is not related to opioids.
Directions For Tablets:
Short-term administration of tramadol may cause some nausea and vomiting. Long-term administration may cause constipation or diarrhea.
