Description

Benazepril HCl

Benazepril Hydrochloride is a vasodilator that dilates the veins and decreases fluid retention. It is used to treat heart failure, high blood pressure, and some forms of kidney disease in dogs and cats. Benazepril reduces afterload on the heart when there is cardiac insufficiency. Benazepril is an angiotension-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that is used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF).

In cats, Benazepril may be effective in slowing the progression of renal failure.

General Action: Vasodilator

Specific Action: ACE inhibitor

Dose and Administration:

Dogs: Heart failure - 0.25-0.5 mg/kg orally every 24 hours

Cats: Chronic renal insufficiency - 0.5-1.0 mg/kg orally every 24 hours
