Description

Proin 25 Chewable Tablets

Phenylpropanolamine HCl

Supplement For Urinary Incontinence In Dogs

Proin Chewable Tablets are recommended for the long-term management of urinary incontinence associated with urethral sphincter incompetence in spayed dogs. Proin helps control urinary incontinence (inability of the bladder to hold urine) by tightening the urethral sphincter to prevent leaking. Many times urine leaking will appear as a wet area on the bedding or as a wet genital area.

By controlling incontinence, Proin also helps relieve associated odor and the dermatitis from urine scalding in the genital area.

Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) is a sympathomimetic agent and is a chemical analogue of the endogenous sympathomimetic amines. Proin acts by increasing resting urethral tone in dogs. It acts by direct stimulation of the smooth muscle of the internal urethral sphincter.

Dosage For Dogs:

1 to 2 mg/kg every 12 hours orally.

If clinical response is poor, the initial diagnosis should be reconsidered.

For this drug to be effective, it must be administrated as directed. Missed doses will negate its effect.

Store at Controlled Room Temperature.

Caution: May cause excitability and restlessness. Do not use in animals with pre-existing medical conditions (e.g. cardiovascular disease, hypertensive disease, renal insufficiency). Do not use in animals taking cardiovascular medications or any other sympathomimetic agents.

Store Proin Chewable Tablets out of reach of dogs and other pets. Instances of dogs chewing through closed bottles of Proin and eating the bottle contents have been reported. If accidental exposure occurs, consult your veterinarian.

Adverse Reactions:

Lethargy and inappetence have been reported in a dog following an overdose (2.5 mg/kg three times daily).

Side Effects
