Movodyl (Carprofen) Chewable Tablets

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory

Movodyl Chewable Tablets by Virbac are a non-narcotic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis, as well as for the control of postoperative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs. Carprofen is part of the propionic acid class of NSAIDs, which includes ibuprofen and naproxen, and provides both analgesic and antipyretic activity. Its mechanism of action is believed to be inhibition of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme involved in the inflammatory process.

Dosage and Administration:
  • Administer 2 mg/lb (4.4 mg/kg) of body weight daily.
  • The total daily dose can be given once daily or divided into two equal doses (1 mg/lb twice daily).
  • For surgical pain, administer ~2 hours before the procedure.
Precautions:
  • Not for use in cats.
  • Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing renal, hepatic, or gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Do not use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
  • Ensure dogs are properly hydrated during treatment.
  • Periodic lab monitoring is recommended during long-term use.
