Description

Doxycycline is a bacteriostatic antibiotic used by veterinarians for the treatment of infections such as Lyme disease, Chlamydia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichiosis and bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Doxycycline for Oral Suspension USP (doxycycline monohydrate) is available as a raspberry‑flavored, dry powder for oral suspension. When reconstituted, each teaspoonful (5 mL) contains doxycycline monohydrate equivalent to 25 mg of doxycycline.

Dosage and Administration:
Doxycycline is not FDA approved for use in veterinary medicine; however, it is a commonly accepted practice to use this medication in dogs and cats. The usual dose of doxycycline in dogs is 2-5mg/pound every 12-24 hours. The usual dose of doxycycline in cats is 2mg/pound every 12 hours.
